Virtual Gastric Lapband Program

Imagine getting the benefits of a lap band without going through surgery, saving yourself thousands of dollars and no risk of side effects! My cutting-edge, scientifically-proven weight loss program offers you similar results at a fraction of the cost.

I am one of only a handful of Colorado weight loss specialists trained in this exciting new technique. Virtual Gastric Lap Band Hypnosis works by convincing the subconscious that you have had the procedure to have a lap band inserted, reducing the size of your stomach. Clients report feeling satisfied with much less food and lose weight simply by the power of suggestion and weekly support and reinforcement. All of this with No drugs and No side effects.

Although many people are able to lose weight with dieting, only 5% will actually be able to keep it off! You probably know friends who have even regained their weight after a surgical lap band, yet still are dealing with the side effects. For permanent weight loss, one must find a way to change what’s going on inside, emotionally and mentally. Cutting down on calories and starting to exercise is great, but to maintain your desired weight, we need to look at your stress levels, associations to food and comfort, self-image, fears, cravings, metabolism, relationships, and sleeping patterns.

Before our first meeting you will take some self-assessments to learn what type of eater you are and how knowledge about your brain can support you. As you can see, besides the lap band procedure, this is a Whole Person approach that will not only help you achieve your target weight, but enable you to create a new “Life Script” for yourself, bringing new vitality and enthusiasm to every phase of your life.

You will learn how your brain affects your motivation to eat and then, through hypnosis, be guided through healing your emotional baggage, and increasing your desire to exercise and to spontaneously make healthier food choices

Each of the 6 sessions has a unique focus, with handouts and weight loss tools, such as a pedometer. In Phase One, including the “pre-op” visit and lap band procedure, the emphasis is on developing a healthier eating schedule, making healthier choices and reinforcing your motivation and reasons to lose weight.  Phase Two emphasizes eating only for hunger, increasing activity and making yourself a priority. Phase Three continues to tweak your eating and exercise plan, ensures sound sleep, and reinforces your desire to maintain your new healthy, happy, balanced lifestyle. The lap band will be virtually tightened in the 5th session and the final session will be individualized to your specific needs, offering support for improved sleep, anxiety, self-esteem, forgiveness, emotional eating, or pain relief.

Weeks before arriving at their target weight, clients report feeling “more excited about life,” or “I’m already feeling different about myself when I wake up in the morning” or even surprise that their favorite pastry no longer attracts them.

Instead of paying in excess of $8,000 my program is only $695.00. This plan includes a “pre-op” intake consultation and 5 weekly sessions.

Remember, No surgery required, this is a completely virtual procedure performed in my office or through personal Skype sessions.

The package includes 6 weekly 1-hour sessions, a weight loss journal, a pedometer and take-home information.   $695

Wild Animals have Gained Weight, Too!

fast-food-eating-animal-1-640x360A fascinating article by David Berreby in Aeon, takes a fresh and scary look at a lot of evidence that obesity may not simply be “the result of a lack of willpower and an inability to discipline eating habits.”

Many scientists who study the biochemistry of fat and the epidemiologists who track weight trends  “believe that personal gluttony and laziness cannot be the entire explanation for humanity’s global weight gain.”

As the American people got fatter, so did marmosets, vervet monkeys and mice. The problem may be bigger than any of us.

Berreby questions-In placing the blame for the obesity epidemic on individuals has our society continued in the same vein as Bruno Bettelheim’s blaming  autism on mothers with cold personalities and blaming natural disasters like tornadoes and earthquakes on sinfulness?

“History is not kind to authorities whose mistaken dogmas cause unnecessary suffering and pointless effort, while ignoring the real causes of trouble. And the history of the obesity era has yet to be written.”

Finally, a Bridge between Neuroscience and Psychoanalysis!

New research by  Francois Ansermet, a psychoanalyst, and Pierre Magistretti, a neuroscientist, shows how, rather than polar opposites, both fields are describing the same dynamics in the personality, behaviors, and motivation.

“The physical traces revealed in neuroplasticity correspond to a central tenet of psychoanalysis that life leaves its traces on the psyche as well.”

A common desire for my hypnosis clients is to be able to break through their subconscious resistance to change or a deep seated fear and anxiety. They are aware that something keeps holding them back, but aren’t sure what it is.

With the relatively new perspective of neuroplasticity, the knowledge that the “ever-changing brain is continually shaped by experience, . . . it means that we all have the capacity to change dysfunctional or unhealthy patterns.”

The Swiss researchers’ model suggests that therapy actually “resculpts” old patterns of thinking and reacting into healthier ways of being.

Psychiatrist Phillip Luloff stated that-

“It talks to the hope that one has that there can be change, that the brain is flexible and plastic. And that by the induction of just talk [analysis] they seem to be able show that there is a modification in the structure of the brain, which causes an evolution in perhaps the way the person functions and may lead to the healing in the troubled people with whom we work, including ourselves.”

Research into mind and brain could help patients with psychological disorders.

Nibble on Nuts to Eat Less

Many of us who love nuts have been afraid to snack on them because of their high fat content. Now they’re being called the “the perfect diet food.” Research shows that people who eat nuts lose more weight and are more likely to stick to their weight loss plans than people who don’t nibble on this ultrasatisfying munchy.” Their crunchiness is a satisfying way to curb pangs of hunger. “They help you feel full, so you’re less likely to overeat later on.”  Go to for even more reasons to eat nuts.

11/4 Change Your Brain, Change Your Life-with Hypnotherapy

For thousands of years we humans have been struggling with our habits and addictions.  Even St. Paul lamented, -“I do not do what I want, but do the very thing I hate.  I can will what is right, but I cannot do it” From ancient practices of healing through trance to cutting edge healers and scientists like Bruce Lipton, Ph.D. (Biology of Belief) and Daniel Amen, M.D. (Unchain Your Brain), hypnosis has long been considered one of the most powerful tools to change your core issues and reprogram your life. Find out how you can use hypnotherapy to create new neural inroad towards the life that your conscious mind desires.

11/11 The Whole Person Approach to the Body you Desire

Psychiatrist and brain imaging expert, Dr. Daniel Amen, states in his latest book, “Change Your Brain, Change Your Body,” that to look and feel your best, you must first think about and optimize your brain.  He recommends knowing your brain type to understand what kind of eater you are and to find out which foods and medications can help or hurt you. Balancing your brain chemistry will make it easier to lose weight, reduce stress and increase energy levels.  Quit dieting and get to know your brain!

11/18 Introduction to Sound Healing

According to Jonathan Goldman, “the human body may be metaphorically understood as an orchestra, with each organ, bone, tissue and part having a resonant frequency.”  Ancient mystery schools of Rome, Athens, Egypt, India, China and Tibet used sound as a therapeutic tool, based upon the belief that vibration is the fundamental creative force of the universe.  Come to experience an orchestra of sound within your own body. After a brief discussion of frequency, entrainment, and cymatics, you will have the opportunity to play crystal healing bowls, listen to Tibetan Bowls, and learn to tone with the sounds from your own throat.

Why Hypnosis?

Recently a friend asked me why, with all the cutting-edge modalities available nowadays, I decided to get trained in something so old as hypnotherapy.

Well, the major reason is because it works! My starting with my undergraduate studies in psychology, I have explored and experienced many types of traditional therapy from a clinical psychologist, an MSW, a pastoral counselor, and a psychoanalyst and all of it was helpful, but my greatest, most immediate breakthroughs came from a few sessions of hypnosis. Friends and family had similar results.

Besides seeing its effectiveness in creating life changes, more information is coming out about why it works, some of it written by “cutting edge” authors. Molecular biologist Bruce Lipton, PhD, in the Biology of Belief, explains that “if an energy vibration in the environment resonates with a receptor’s antenna, it will alter the protein’s charge, causing the receptor to change shape”. . . so “biological behavior can be controlled by invisible forces, including thought, as well as it can be controlled by physical molecules, like penicillin. . .” We are not locked into our DNA, change at the core, cellular level is possible.

A study published in the Annals of the New York Academy of Science, “. . . that energetic signaling mechanisms, such as electromagnetic frequencies are a hundred times more efficient in relaying environmental information than physical signals such as hormones, neurotransmitters, growth factors, etc.” (81)

In addition to our genetic makeup and how it is affected by the environment through energy fields, much of how we live our day to day lives is simply due to programming that was instilled in us as children. Lipton points out that young children’s brains are operating at the same low frequencies (theta and alpha) utilized in hypnosis to create deep suggestible states. So, we all have taken in, “downloaded”, thousands of messages whether they were appropriate for us or even accurate. All of that programming was absorbed without being filtered through the critical mind, which develops later.

It makes sense, then, that to release some of those old messages and patterns that keep us in a rut, returning to the deeper levels of consciousness would facilitate the change we (our higher level of consciousness) desire. He states, “The biggest impediments to realizing the success of which we dream are the limitations programmed into the subconscious. These limitations not only influence our behavior, they can also play a major role in determining our physiology and health. (xiv)” he goes on to say that “positive thoughts have a profound effect on behavior and genes, but only when they are in harmony with subconscious programming” (xxviii).  We, hypnotherapists, could actually term ourselves as “subconscious behavioral therapists.”

Lipton provides this quote of Gandhi-

Your beliefs become your thoughts
Your thoughts become your words
Your words become your actions
Your actions become your habits
Your habits become your values
Your values become your destiny.

Positive thinking can help, prayer and meditation can help, willpower can help, but for those of us who could use even more help, hypnotherapy can provide an extra lift out of the old rut, into a new direction and destiny.
