Quit Smoking by Using Your Mind!

Technologies of the Self’s Smoking Cessation Program is very effective.  If you are truly ready and motivated to quit smoking, you should be able to stop smoking with just one 2-hour session.  Most people do. Research shows that hypnosis doubles the effectiveness of any other approach, so combining tools intensifies its power!

We will be meeting 3 times in my office. The first time is a Prepare to Quit Session. We will explore your smoking history and related issues, as well as why and when you smoke. You will set your QUIT DATE and go home with a list of recommendations to prepare for success.

Your Stop Smoking with Hypnotherapy Session will then be individualized to fit your own particular motivations to quit smoking and what benefits you see that it will bring to your life. For some it’s to go backpacking in the mountains without being short of breath; for others it’s to prevent lung cancer, to have better smelling clothes or to avoid wrinkles. Whatever you tell me, I will use your own words to suggest them back to you, when you are in a deep state of relaxation and your subconscious mind is open to take in the desires of your conscious, rational, health-oriented  mind. During your intense session, you will be guided through a number of techniques and visualizations to gain your freedom from cigarettes and start your new healthy lifestyle with easy, clear breathing.

The program is $349, which includes-

1) Preparing to Quit meeting (1 hour)

2) the Stop Smoking with Hypnotherapy session (1 1/2 -2 hours)

3) a take-home reinforcement Stop-Smoking CD (20 minutes)

4) follow-up Reinforcement Session. (1 hour)

Payment may be made by check, cash or credit card.

Denver area friends, wanted you to know that I have a new Meetup group that I think you’d enjoy-Mind/Brain Explorations for Living. To help you create the life you are meant to be living, we will learn, explore, meditate and create on our journey to wellness and personal/spiritual growth.Technologies of the Self

Topics range from learning self-hypnosis techniques, stress relief, meditation, pain management, brain optimization, weight loss, and recovery support, to sound healing. Are you the type that loves to keep growing? We will have a creative, rewarding time together. I will be sharing a lot of the same information from my workshops and leading you through some hypnotic visualization sessions. So, this is a very affordable way to experience and learn. Each session will give you take-home exercises, techniques and info to support your creation of the New You!

Our next session, this Tuesday evening, is about willpower, how to access it and how to strengthen it. It’s pretty surprising stuff, based on the work of Dr. Kelly McGonigal.

Besides looking at this fresh new approach to habit change, I will be sharing a very simple 5-minute meditation that anyone can do, in fact, she says it works even better if you’re not good at it!

Space is limited to 8, so make sure to RSVP through Meetup, the rest of the info is there, too-

Kicking the Habit by Rewarding Yourself

Years ago I heard a parable of a guru who told his student that while he meditated he should never think about the RED MONKEY. Of course, although he had never thought of a red monkey before, that became the image that kept coming into his mind. Research has now shown that signs that prohibit smoking actually activate a craving to light up. Just think of all the negative messages that are everywhere intended to promote public health. In The Power of Habit: Why we do what we do in life and business, Charles Duhig states that habits can never be eradicated, they must be replaced by something that is equally rewarding.

Do you have a habit you want to kick? When you first feel the craving begin, pause a few minutes and get in touch with what you are really feeling. Are you just bored? annoyed? stressed? lonely? Whatever you are reaching for is what you use to mask what you truly want. Once you have identified what you are used to masking, the next step is to make a list of other ways to satisfy or remedy the uncomfortable emotion. Will power is rarely strong enough to create a new pattern. Once you have figured out other ways to relieve stress, or boredom, or loneliness and made them readily available in your schedule and surroundings, you just might find that you are naturally smoking less, exercising more, and enjoying life more fully.

THOU SHALT NOT SAY “NO” TO YOURSELF.

SAY “YES” TO LIFE!

Hypnosis for Pain Management

This is one of the areas in which hypnosis is undeniably effective for so many clients.

Pain can paralyze us making it impossible to focus, to work, or even to enjoy those times that are supposed to be pleasant and relaxing.

Under hypnosis people have famously undergone complicated surgery and felt little discomfort. Hypnosis is now even taught in some dental schools as a tool for pain management.

In day-to-day life pain becomes compounded by strong emotions often making us sad, irritable, and angry.

Come for a consultation and learn how you can use hypnosis to begin to enjoy your life again.

Americans are living longer than ever before. The bad news is that studies show that 50% of those reaching the age of 85 will have dementia. The good news is that there are simple steps you can take to preserve your brain and to keep it active and sharp.

Anxiety∙Memory∙Insomnia∙Lack of Energy∙Mood Swings

These are symptoms of brain chemistry deficiencies that can often be self-treated with diet, natural supplements, and exercise, avoiding the need for powerful drugs or later loss of cognitive abilities.

Learn how to keep your own brain going as long as your body.

11/4 Change Your Brain, Change Your Life-with Hypnotherapy

For thousands of years we humans have been struggling with our habits and addictions.  Even St. Paul lamented, -“I do not do what I want, but do the very thing I hate.  I can will what is right, but I cannot do it” From ancient practices of healing through trance to cutting edge healers and scientists like Bruce Lipton, Ph.D. (Biology of Belief) and Daniel Amen, M.D. (Unchain Your Brain), hypnosis has long been considered one of the most powerful tools to change your core issues and reprogram your life. Find out how you can use hypnotherapy to create new neural inroad towards the life that your conscious mind desires.

11/11 The Whole Person Approach to the Body you Desire

Psychiatrist and brain imaging expert, Dr. Daniel Amen, states in his latest book, “Change Your Brain, Change Your Body,” that to look and feel your best, you must first think about and optimize your brain.  He recommends knowing your brain type to understand what kind of eater you are and to find out which foods and medications can help or hurt you. Balancing your brain chemistry will make it easier to lose weight, reduce stress and increase energy levels.  Quit dieting and get to know your brain!

11/18 Introduction to Sound Healing

According to Jonathan Goldman, “the human body may be metaphorically understood as an orchestra, with each organ, bone, tissue and part having a resonant frequency.”  Ancient mystery schools of Rome, Athens, Egypt, India, China and Tibet used sound as a therapeutic tool, based upon the belief that vibration is the fundamental creative force of the universe.  Come to experience an orchestra of sound within your own body. After a brief discussion of frequency, entrainment, and cymatics, you will have the opportunity to play crystal healing bowls, listen to Tibetan Bowls, and learn to tone with the sounds from your own throat.

Why Hypnosis?

Recently a friend asked me why, with all the cutting-edge modalities available nowadays, I decided to get trained in something so old as hypnotherapy.

Well, the major reason is because it works! My starting with my undergraduate studies in psychology, I have explored and experienced many types of traditional therapy from a clinical psychologist, an MSW, a pastoral counselor, and a psychoanalyst and all of it was helpful, but my greatest, most immediate breakthroughs came from a few sessions of hypnosis. Friends and family had similar results.

Besides seeing its effectiveness in creating life changes, more information is coming out about why it works, some of it written by “cutting edge” authors. Molecular biologist Bruce Lipton, PhD, in the Biology of Belief, explains that “if an energy vibration in the environment resonates with a receptor’s antenna, it will alter the protein’s charge, causing the receptor to change shape”. . . so “biological behavior can be controlled by invisible forces, including thought, as well as it can be controlled by physical molecules, like penicillin. . .” We are not locked into our DNA, change at the core, cellular level is possible.

A study published in the Annals of the New York Academy of Science, “. . . that energetic signaling mechanisms, such as electromagnetic frequencies are a hundred times more efficient in relaying environmental information than physical signals such as hormones, neurotransmitters, growth factors, etc.” (81)

In addition to our genetic makeup and how it is affected by the environment through energy fields, much of how we live our day to day lives is simply due to programming that was instilled in us as children. Lipton points out that young children’s brains are operating at the same low frequencies (theta and alpha) utilized in hypnosis to create deep suggestible states. So, we all have taken in, “downloaded”, thousands of messages whether they were appropriate for us or even accurate. All of that programming was absorbed without being filtered through the critical mind, which develops later.

It makes sense, then, that to release some of those old messages and patterns that keep us in a rut, returning to the deeper levels of consciousness would facilitate the change we (our higher level of consciousness) desire. He states, “The biggest impediments to realizing the success of which we dream are the limitations programmed into the subconscious. These limitations not only influence our behavior, they can also play a major role in determining our physiology and health. (xiv)” he goes on to say that “positive thoughts have a profound effect on behavior and genes, but only when they are in harmony with subconscious programming” (xxviii).  We, hypnotherapists, could actually term ourselves as “subconscious behavioral therapists.”

Lipton provides this quote of Gandhi-

Your beliefs become your thoughts
Your thoughts become your words
Your words become your actions
Your actions become your habits
Your habits become your values
Your values become your destiny.

Positive thinking can help, prayer and meditation can help, willpower can help, but for those of us who could use even more help, hypnotherapy can provide an extra lift out of the old rut, into a new direction and destiny.
